Dr. Kent A. Corso, PsyD, BCBA-D, Suicidologist
Dr. Kent A. Corso is a clinical psychologist, behavior analyst, U.S. Air Force veteran, and nationally recognized suicidologist with more than 20 years of experience leading suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention initiatives across military, veteran, law enforcement, healthcare, and community settings.
He is the founder of PROSPER, which stands for Proactive Reduction Of Suicide in Populations via Evidence-based Research, an evidence-based suicide prevention model that has trained more than 250,000 people across the United States and internationally. His work has helped communities and agencies achieve significant reductions in suicide rates, including reductions ranging from 47% to 60% in several high-risk populations.
Dr. Corso previously served as Special Advisor to the Commissioner for Behavioral Safety and Risk Management and Suicide Prevention Program Manager for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the largest law enforcement organization in the world. In that role, he led suicide prevention efforts for more than 64,000 employees, developed policy, created training programs, analyzed suicide trends, and helped reduce CBP suicides by nearly half.
His background includes extensive work with the Department of Defense, Defense Health Agency, National Guard Bureau, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, U.S. Air Force, Give an Hour, and other military-connected behavioral health organizations. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers, posters, and presentations in suicidology and behavioral sciences, and has authored a book and two book chapters on behavioral health integration.
As a member of the Red Star Foundation Board of Advisors, Dr. Corso provides expert guidance on suicide prevention strategy, evidence-based training, program development, crisis intervention, postvention support, and outcome measurement. His expertise will help strengthen Red Star’s mission to prevent suicide among service members, veterans, first responders, and their families while supporting Red Star Families across the nation.
