Tony Marsh

Tony Marsh is the founder and chairman of Savanna Communications, a global strategic communications consultancy he established in 2010. Over the course of his career, Tony has worked across 43 U.S. states and 17 countries, advising companies, NGOs, government agencies, and political organizations.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, Tony served as a communications specialist until his honorable discharge in 1976.

Following his military service, he joined the Ronald Reagan for President campaign and went on to serve as a senior strategic consultant on more than two dozen campaigns for the California legislature and the U.S. Congress.

In 1992, Tony partnered with renowned California consultant Sal Russo to form Russo Marsh + Associates. Together, they produced the first-ever television commercials shot in the Soviet Union.

Tony played a key strategic role in the 1990 presidential campaign of Violeta Chamorro in Nicaragua, the first woman to serve as president of the country and the first successful electoral defeat of a communist incumbent anywhere in the world. The following year, he and Sal Russo created the media and advertising for the campaign that led to Ukraine’s independence from the Soviet Union.

Since then, Tony has contributed to major political, governmental, and civil society initiatives on five continents, including:

• Developing production facilities, political capacity, and civil society infrastructure in Iraq following the 2003 U.S. invasion.
• Producing advertising for presidential and parliamentary campaigns in more than a dozen countries.
• Designing and implementing winning strategies for the Kurdish Democratic Party in Iraq.
• Creating social media campaigns that helped mobilize mass opposition and ultimately contributed to the fall of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s autocratic regime in Bangladesh.
• Conducting regular surveys of public opinion in Iran (2004–2008) and working with Iranian activists to provide tactical training in civil disobedience and protest.
• Producing dozens of video projects for leading companies and associations, including Wells Fargo, the National Association of Broadcasters, Zurich Insurance, and AmerisourceBergen.
• Advising party leaders, government ministers, parliamentary leaders, and presidents in Ukraine, Iraq, Russia, Azerbaijan, Romania, and Albania.

Tony lives in Annapolis, Maryland, where he continues to lead Savanna Communications’ global advisory work.
