Providing Honor and Support to the Victims of
Veteran and First Responder Suicides

About

Red Star Foundation

Veteran suicide is a critical issue that highlights the unique mental health struggles faced by those who served in the military. Veterans often endure intense physical and psychological stress during their service, including exposure to combat, trauma, and separation from loved ones, all of which can lead to lasting mental health challenges like PTSD, depression, and anxiety. Addressing veteran suicide isn’t just about saving lives; it’s about honoring the commitment these individuals made by providing them the help they need to heal and find hope beyond their service.

Veteran suicide has a profound and lasting impact on the family members left behind, who must cope with complex grief, feelings of guilt, and emotional trauma. Losing a loved one to suicide often leaves unanswered questions and can create a sense of isolation. This grief can disrupt family dynamics, leading to mental health struggles such as depression, anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts, and suicides among family members themselves.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to build a compassionate, nationwide peer-to-peer network dedicated to supporting families affected by veteran and first responder suicide, raise awareness, and advance suicide prevention for veterans, first responders and families.

Through local chapters we will strive to connect individuals and families with shared experiences, fostering a safe space for healing, empathy, and hope. Through education, advocacy, and outreach, we aim to break down stigmas surrounding mental health and provide communities with tools and resources that promote understanding and resilience. Together, we believe in the power of connection and support to bring light to those touched by suicide and to work toward a world where every life is valued and protected.

Red Star Foundation will establish programs, resources and services to include education, training, suicide awareness and prevention, bereavement and grief support, and peer-to-peer networking. Red Star Foundation is an I.R.S. approved 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.
